Help Rebuild a Flood-Devastated Marlapadu Thanda

The recent montha cyclone floods have shattered the lives of 350+ families in our Marlapadu thanda. We lost our cows, animals, and everything we depended on. Our children who study in hostels now have no way to pay their school fees. With no income, no belongings, and no security, our entire community has been pushed into unimaginable distress.

Just a few kilometres away sits the incomplete Nakkalagandi reservoir. When it overflowed, nearly 20 feet of water rushed back into our thanda. The floods came with such force that if the water had entered during the night, none of the families here would have survived. The fear still haunts us, and the damage left behind has changed our lives forever.

Most families had stored their cotton harvest inside their homes. In a single night, everything was destroyed. Every farmer lost 15–80 tonnes of cotton, resulting in losses worth lakhs. Cotton was not just a crop—it was our only source of income, our hope for the year. Watching it rot in floodwater left many villagers without a single rupee to rebuild their lives.

The roads were buried under thick layers of mud. With no machines available, we struggled for days until JCBs arrived. It took 10 days just to clear the mud from our streets. Inside our homes, the situation is even more heartbreaking: we have no clothes left to wear, no blankets to protect our children, and parts of our house ceilings have collapsed. We lost whatever savings we had—money, gold, grains, children’s books, and even the last bags of rice we depended on.

Today, our community stands devastated. Families are struggling to feed their children. Farmers have no crops left to sell. Parents cannot send their children back to school. From clothing to food to basic essentials, we lack everything. As we try to rebuild our lives from nothing, we urgently need your support.
