Support IDO NGO in Providing Healthcare to 120 Tribal Hamlets
Story
Dr. Narendar’s Journey:
“I’m a doctor by profession. I believe that my job is to provide service for those in need, to make the world free of diseases and ill health. Of course, I can’t change the whole world. But I always wanted to do my bit. One day, I came across a tribal village (Bhadradri Kothagudem) on a news channel. I saw that they were facing many medical issues. On visiting the village, I realised that they had nothing – no water, no electricity, no clinics. I left everything behind in the city and moved to that Forest reserve. My wife supported me in every possible way. I formed a team and we had to start from scratch. It took me about 2 months to understand how the village is spread because these tribal people live in small parts in 60 km radius.
So I’d take my bike and travel to each place and do some medical check-up. But they wouldn’t trust me, which is understandable. I was a random man from the city trying to live with them. Almost 3 months later, a severely malnourished baby, who should have ideally weighed 12 kg, was 4.2 kg and she was sick. It was time for us to give her immediate treatment because her life was in danger. Although they were hesitant to let me help them, I convinced them to give me a chance and took the onus of treating her. We took her to the nearest hospital and started giving her a lot of nutritious food and supplements. She survived and she’s about 9 kg now. This incident helped the villagers trust us. It later became easy to talk to them and bring them out of misery. But it’s not just medical needs. We had to start working on development that would, in turn, help us prevent diseases. About IDO:
Founded in March 2019 by Dr. Narendar (Founder), Integrated Development Outreach (IDO) is a grassroots health-care initiative dedicated to delivering comprehensive medical services to some of the most inaccessible tribal hamlets of Bhadradri Kothagudem, Telangana.
Operating with four Mobile Medical Units, our field teams travel rugged forest tracks—often on foot—to reach remote settlements such as Gangamma Colony, Jaggaram, Palavagu, and Mallaram. These fully equipped mobile clinics serve as lifelines, providing primary care, diagnostics, and emergency support directly at villagers’ doorsteps.
Key Impact Numbers
- 100 + OPD consultations every day—free of cost.
- 16 surgeries each month on average, supporting maternal health and population stability.
- 130 hamlets served to date, with over 60,000 beneficiaries across Bhadradri Kothagudem district.
- 350 + major surgeries completed without a single rupee charged to the patient.
Common Problems in Tribal Hamlets
- Forest-foraged diet only – families depend on roots, fruits, and wild greens; no farmland or markets for balanced meals.
- Chronic iron deficiency – adults feel constant fatigue; pregnant women have dangerously low haemoglobin.
- Under-weight newborns – anaemic mothers give birth to fragile babies who struggle from day one.
- High infant mortality – without fortified foods or timely care, many infants do not survive their first year.
- Triple disease burden – anaemia weakens immunity, pneumonia strikes during damp nights, and malaria spreads via mosquito-ridden pools.
To counter these hardships, IDO sends its mobile medical units deep into the forest, holding regular health camps in each tribal hamlet. The teams offer on-the-spot consultations, diagnostic scans, and complete OPD services, all free of charge, and supply every patient with the required medicines before they leave. At the main IDO Health Centre, visitors and in-patients receive nourishing, freshly prepared meals at no cost, ensuring that both treatment and nutrition reach those who need them most. To sustain these operations, we need approximately ₹50 lakh per annum.
We invite donors to support the IDO Health-Care Centre and improve the lives of our tribal communities.
